Motor carriers across the country are receiving emails about FMCSA Motus registration, and it’s creating confusion. Some carriers are trying to register or are getting errors. Others think they need to act immediately.
Here’s what’s actually happening, and what you should (and shouldn’t) be doing right now.
If you’ve tried accessing the FMCSA Motus system and ran into issues, you’re not alone. The system is still in a limited rollout.
Right now, access is primarily restricted to insurance filers. BOC-3 process agents, and select service providers
Motor carriers are not fully onboarded yet, which is why registration errors are expected. For an official overview, you can review the FMCSA Motus system.
FMCSA Motus is expected to roll out to motor carriers during a future phase (expected in 2026).
While there is no confirmed date, carriers will eventually transition to Motus, and registration will move fully into the new system
Until then, continue using current systems like the FMCSA registration portal and the Unified Registration System (URS).
FMCSA Motus does not change compliance requirements, but it does change how you access, manage, and control your account.

Verify Your FMCSA Portal Access
Make sure you can access your account through the FMCSA Portal. Confirm your login works, the correct company officer has access, and former employees no longer have access.

Update Your MCS-150 and Company Information
Before transitioning to Motus, ensure your company information is accurate.
