What Is International Roadcheck?
International Roadcheck Week is a 3-day event where law enforcement agencies across North America conduct Level 1 Roadside Inspections on Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs). Inspections occur at weigh stations, designated inspection areas, and temporary roadside locations.
The purpose of International Roadcheck is straightforward: to ensure carriers and drivers are maintaining compliance. Failing a Level 1 roadside inspection can lead to violations, fines, or out-of-service orders — all of which can affect your safety score and bottom line. How to Prepare for CVSA’s 2025 International Roadcheck
Preparation is key. While many of these steps should already be part of your daily routine, International Roadcheck calls for extra attention to detail.
Based on our team’s experience within the trucking industry, we’ve compiled a list of 4 tips to help ensure your operation is ready:
- Perform Thorough Pre-Trip Inspections
Daily pre-trip inspections are essential, but during International Roadcheck, they require even more attention. Inspect critical components such as lights, tires, brakes, and fluid leaks before heading out.

- Verify Clearinghouse Compliance
With the Clearinghouse Final Rule II now in full effect, Inspectors are closely reviewing Clearinghouse registrations and drivers’ status in the Clearinghouse. Ensure your company and all drivers are properly registered and confirm no drivers are operating with a Prohibited status in the Clearinghouse.
Take time to review your Clearinghouse dashboard prior to International Roadcheck to avoid unnecessary disruptions.
- Organize and Update your “Truck Book”
Having organized and up to date Truck Book (Operating Authority/Permits, Vehicle Registrations, Insurance ID Cards, Annual Inspections, Etc) is essential during an inspection. Keep this documentation easily accessible in your cab.
A well-maintained truck book not only supports a smooth inspection process but also demonstrates a proactive approach to compliance.
- Check ELD Functionality and Logbook Backup
Ensure your Electronic Logging Device (ELD) is working properly and fully compliant. Test it ahead of time, check connections, and confirm that data is recording correctly.
Carry at least 8 blank logbook pages in your vehicle as a backup in the event your ELD malfunctions. You will also need your ELD’s operation manual with instructions regarding malfunctions and how to transmit the ELD records to Inspectors.
